Residential Treatment Centers for Troubled Boys and Girls

Residential Treatment Centers for troubled teens are similar to Emotional Growth Boarding Schools, except they include group and individual therapy. Being residential means the teens reside at the center, typically 8 - 16 months.

All Residential Treatment Centers that we recommend include a full academic program so teens can continue their education while at the center. They differ from Emotional Growth Boarding Schools as they have therapists on staff and don't usually need to contract outside services to provide group and individual therapy. They are most appropriate for teens that need long term help. This would include teens that have been abusing alcohol and/or drugs, getting into a lot of trouble at school, or have other behavioral or emotional problems. Because Residential Treatment Centers are long term and include therapy, they give the teen enough time to make lasting changes.

Teens with suicidal ideation or severe depression would benefit from a Residential Treatment Center.

The costs range between $5,000 to $16,000 a month, depending on the nature of the clinical aspect needed and location.

Some expenses for the therapy may be paid by health insurance. Please check with your health insurance company before assuming they will pay for any of the costs of a Residential Treatment Center.
